Great Christmas

Dear Babes,

I really enjoyed myself during the BBQ. Thank you for giving me happiness. Last Tuesday, I was still quite stressed as I was having contractions and might give birth to a premature baby. Had injections and medicine... That was quite a lot of laughter on 24 Dec.

I hope you all enjoyed the present part. It was simple hilarious! And somebody better educate Melvin the difference between panty liners and menstruation pads.

There are some bugging issues though. There seems to be unhappiness in many of you right now. If you can still remember the cards that I gave to each and every single one of you, I said it's time to take flight. It's never easy to leave the comfort zone. And it's even tougher when you soar to great great heights. Cos when you fall, you'll crash to death or get hurt badly.

It's difficult to find friends. I mean F-R-I-E-N-D-S, not associates, not classmates. The latter two are easy, easy come, easy go. Friends are people who won't think of getting any benefits from you, or to out-do you. (WILLY, You better assess this part in your life, else you will always be Mr Grouchy.) Everyone needs friends. My experience tells me that my good friends come a long way back. My closest lot comes from the primary school lot, who, up till right now, celebrate one another's birthday. You will get to appreciate one another even more when you grow older.

Yes, I teach minimally in O Levels Biology. Cos I had that as a student. My belief is still very firm - I must try to get you people to get decent grade to proceed to the next level. The rest will come later.

And yes, I MISS YOU PEOPLE A LOT. Many years later, I will still remember you guys and gals.

Until we meet again, please take good care of yourselves!

okay... its my time to contribute something to my beloved class. JC life is tough and i understand that poly is nowhere better too. nothing is easy in life as we can see. no matter where you go there will always be competition. i had been struggling very hard with Jc all along, especially when my Promo is around the corner. i dont understand most of the concept and you know how bad it feels going into examination with nothing in your head. i manage to hire a tutor for math and chem, hoping to revive them. In jc, its like teacher and lecturers feeding you with infomation all the while and its to your own ability whether you can cope. You can cope=good student, you cant=retainee. I am obviously the cant cope student and face the danger of being retain. i am under enormous stress in a certain period of time and really thinking of quitting school. i chatted with my parents and they have no rejection. so close to leaving aj, but my friends pulled me back. really appreciate my friends in aj for helping me up and those always by my side. now i truly understand the importance of friends during the period whereby one felt most helpless. so anyone feeling stress feel free to find me okay? someone helped me and i will like to return the favour. i am considered lucky and i am worked hard for my promo exam. hope i can pass my promo. Pray for me. haha... thanks^^ find a way out when you are in trouble. find a person you trust to talk to when you feel helpless. if you trust no one, find me.

hahaha. i suddenly got the feel to type something. :)
well im currently pursuing a diploma in biomed sci in sp.

the results were released on the 12th of sept i think. and so its the latest 'in' thing for our course. and well people do talk abt it just like we do in sec schl. just tht probably a lil more sensitive now? i'll never have the guts to ask friends whom im nt tt familiar with. anyway.

backgrd of how our results are determined for jc ppl to understand.
our results are determined by something called GPA which all the poly students will be familiar with. max of gpa 4. for sp, distinction, A gives a gpa of 4 and B+ - 3.5, B - 3.0, and so on. and different modules (subjects) we take have different credit units as well, its smthing like their weightage. so 5 credit units modules have bigger weightage counted in the gpa.

i just got to hear of a friend getting 6 distinctions out of 7 modules and a GPA of max 4 this semester! the feeling was very intimidating. god. fyi i only got 1 distinction and there are inhuman people getting 6 dists. indeed i felt inferior. esp when my class is one of the best among the others. even during tests, lecturers will tell us tt our class produced the best results. and thr are superhumans not having to study for tests and getting all the As but thr i am mugging like shit and getting Cs and Ds. I got used to all that.

and now after one semester , the only thing that I look forward to, is the vacations. the only difference is that we poly students take different modules every semester so the vacations is truly a vacation, unlike jc/sec school. the whole one month can be used to slack and not revision.

ah. and sp's starting the 2nd semester right away after this weekend where as np,nyp,tp are all having at least 3-4 weeks more holidays. haha. i know ive mentioned this umpteen times on my blog..

anyway my conclusion is that poly aint a place for slacking, if youre serious abt yourself, about your future. well you can always pass with a gpa of 2+ but unfortunately the gpa they are looking at for uni intake is ard 3.5. although 3 is considered as well but 3.5 is more of a guaranteed thing. and its not like A levels whr only your As results will be counted. poly is a 3 year thing and sad to say, if you only intend to rly study during your 3rd year, for ur fyp(final year project) for ur itp(industrial training programme - attachment) then im afraid its bad planning for it will definitely reflect badly on yourself. teehee.

i hope my entry is nt too hard to read cos i dont have capital letters and sometimes wrong punctuation. hahaha. i apologize for tt. :)

after reading the previous post. i just feel that it's time to share my thots as well..

the truth is that this is not the course that i wanted. my third choice. currently in same course as Siek Mee. yet we take different modules. we exchange modules each sem ( meaning this coming sem i will be taking the modules she taken last sem. and vice versa.)

people says that JC is stressful and poly is a bliss. i totally disagree. perhaps. it's the attitude towards academic and also the courses you choose. Yes. i admit that for JC there is no break. study hard for 2 full yrs w/o rest. i agree that you guys are totally dried up! but den. i wud say that we are also stressful. but den. we have long break in between the semesters. at least you guys study for the long term. we all. projects like mountains. once you choose the wrong members. one word. you are GONE. =D

coming to poly made me realised that everythings depends on own initiative. and INTERNET is impt. once internet is down. i will be outdated of the stuffs. everything is posted online. the notes, the annoucements, the updates, the homeworks, deadlines, project. simply everything is posted online. and it is really demanding i wud say.
i rmb that i wasn't used it the first few weeks. and i skipped many assignments and gotten so panicky. i even submited some of the things to the wrong lecturers and share my files with the wrong class.
there is no reminder that the assignments are due or there is assignments waiting. everything is up to own INITIATIVES. as such. i felt that many tried to give invalid excuses that they did not see it so as to hide their own responsibilities.

i did not know if i shud that i am lucky or unfortunate in be that class. i faced high COMPETITIONS. and i wud say that i felt inferior. some are previously from JC, and many scored less than 10 points to enter the course. not saying that there is people that scored 6 points for L1R5.
i felt scared. really scared. they skipped lectures and do tutorials qtns on the spot in tutorials. to them, everything seems so easy.
whereas, for me. i will have to read thru the lecture notes every morning on my way to school. faithfully doing every single tutorial qtns, stay back to ask qtns after classes. and yet, my understanding is still shallow.
thrown into class with tutors that is sarcastic, straightforward and unhelpful sometimes makes me really upset. i felt that i need to help myself. cos no one will help mi unless i make the extra effort to prove that i can do it as well as others can.

perhaps. it's not only competitive. it's also about comparison. everyone tend to compare who is better and who has more brains. and the fact is that my class have the highest avg for modules like miec, and i think that perhaps we are ' best' class. there is simply no slacking allowed.
for example. microeconomics. a test which has the total of 50. 40 is considers a AD( A distinction) our class will score a high 39.7. which means that everyone is ard AD standard. and if ya ask ard.. everyone will score around there (A) with a minority of those that scored very badly pulling the avg down. so you tell me how to slack?

when exams are coming, it gets real scary. my classmates will be in school every single day from morning to nite to study and discuss their uncertainties. everyone mugging so hard. shutting themselves away from all distractions. endless overnites at mac to study. and on the day itself. everyone seems so confident. how to slack? LOL.

i wud say i had toned down alot since the starting of the semester. no longer that outspoken and sociable. you will hardly hear my voice in class and i will just sit at one corner. tutor will often prompt me to answer qtns to make sure i'm still there and qtn my existance. everyone is so eager to lead and to speak and to be the centre of attention. perhaps. my classmates will not have notice me at all. but i wasn't affected at all. i rather be a follower now.
and my tutor criticized and pointed out my errors in presentations infront of the whole combined class. this made me even more intimidated and inferior. i did thot that i am good at presentations and talking. yet. she put my so low and i felt that i am nothing at all.

but i am still as commanding in group as i demand the best effort put in. and i admit being rather harsh on my group members. cos there ought to have FREE RIDERS in the grp taking advantage. there is people that aim to just pass while i wanted the best out of everything. thus, i came to a conclusion that watever that dun wan to do. i will do. no point nagging and pushing as it only makes mi look bad. thus, i loaded myself with works and do every project seriously. from the skeletons to the research to the rephrase and editing. slack? THINK AGAIN.

in poly. teacher has access to each and every student's informations. from the 'o' level scores to the choices to the house you live to the income to simply everything. and tutors do comparing. and discriminations are rampant. tutors judge you by your results there and favourtise i guess.
words can be as harsh as ' i am sure you wun do well. see you again next semester' ( repeat modules)
and people will call you 'AD' when you score very well.
i din like the fact that they call me 'AD' for the particular module cos i scored the highest for common test. and people thinking that i am the tutor's pet ( they may not meant they way. but i did feel sad about it.) cos he will call me out to talk during lectures, ask mi go thru papers with them, lead the tutorial discussions. and even call me up on the exam days. perhaps. as i said. i just wan to be a normal student. there is nth amazing about me any way.
while other tutors will pin point me for no particular reasons. i hate all this. seriously. can't all of them just be FAIR to everyone.

i learnt that the impt thing is - not to judge the book by its cover.
friend is friend. yet comes to work. sumtimes have to differentiate. call me selfish. but sumtimes it's difficult to decide if i shud choose frens or work first. and it's difficult to reject a fren's request to be in the same grp yet you noe that they will not do any work.
they may look as if they are hardworking. but comes to work. they take advantage to slack and leave everything to you. people like me will just do and do cos i just wan to do well.

BONDING seems difficult. am i right to say that we took quite long to be this close. 2 yrs tgt that came this close.
i am fortunate to be in this class that is quite bonded. majority are bonded i guess. we go outings and have every meals tgt. we are the noisiest class ever and we do stupid things tgt. like to stand in a row and make 'london bridge' and make sure the tutor bend and walk under our hands before entering the classrooms. we talk about ghost in class and refuses to get back to the main topic. we eat tgt and even join the same CCA tgt. study tgt. stay thruout the paper tgt and was commented ' the more lou soh(naggy) class' even jammed the toilets tgt.
lookin at others classes who bearly know each other names. i learnt to be grateful for the time being. perhaps. it's only 4 months tgt and we are able be like that. i guess. it's a gd achievement.

Business courses in NP gets to select their own time table.
so, we change class EVERY SEMESTER. 6 times in whole. so guess. we will not be in the same class any more. at else. not the same tutorial classes.
just chose timetable today. the systems is so fast that is more than we imagine. just 1 secs and the timeslot if gone.
many given up a gd time table. compromising into a very ugly timetable which ends very late. to be in the same class. while i chose to be in a gd timetable and will combine with them once a week.
i din know if i made the right decision though. frens VS gd timing? which of it will you choose?

being a NP-er also gives me risks of getting HEART ATTACK. it's so gan jiong ( anxious) when comes to choosing tings. like choose time table. LOL. split seconds and all the classes are taken up. and SMS for results arrive as early as 8:33am.

i admit feeling demoralised looking at others ppl's result and being criticized. i felt that i am lousy and inferior there. i wasn't the best and will never be the best ever. many JC ppl and ppl that are so smart. poly is also competitive. now you nid to fight to be the very very top.

to those that is working part-time. dun let ur work make you put studies second. if ya wanna work, then ya must show that ya can study as well. i proved that. did you?

pepo. you may not have scored well this sem. dun be upset. it's time to get over and done with the emotionally upheaval and start to PULL UP UR SOCKS! study hard. it's hard to adapt to the system and the modules are foreign i noe. influence and environment is jus not right to study. but den .. again. i guess. we may not be the best. yet. we shud at least try our best and be accountable to ourselves right. xD

I thought I might as well post this. It's too long a tag.

I told you people many times how I had suffered in AJC. And I did made comparisons between AJC and SAJC (JC that I spent for first 3 months). I don't enjoy AJC at all. But no regrets, honestly.

Teachers were less caring and less patient in AJC. But I'd learnt the sense of urgency.

I faced ultimate setbacks in AJC, failing almost every possible common tests and exams (meaning not getting C and above). I think I only passed my Chinese and Biology. But I have learnt the value of perseverance.

I used to be in the best class in Sec school. Coming to AJC made me felt lousy as my classmates were able to comprehend many of the lectures, while I have to do revisions at home. It's a lousy feeling, but I learnt that no one can be the best, there are many more outstanding people out there.

That's why Willy is feeling very sore now. It's the denial stage. you have to get pass it. Accept the fact that you can't be the one and only best. You can be one of the best though. top 20%, perhaps?

Comparing with SAJC, SAJC is a fun place and pace is relaxed. I may not get into Uni at all if I stayed there. Not that the teachers are not good, but the studying environment is not suitable for me. Some people can survive under that kind of environment, and did well to go Uni, e.g. Ms Ong is from SAJC. But I'm not her.

That's why we always advice pupils - try the first 3 months. You will know whether you like it or not. See, Willy. Not heeding the advice.

But no use crying over spilt milk. Press on.

All, in all, I was an unhappy child in AJC, but I am grateful to the teachers there. So, I'll get the publicity for the Open House done.

Personal Belief

Haha. I think AB is driving Willy gaga! ;p

You all can call me pesimistic. No doubt that biotechnology and cell and molecular biology are the two areas that I studied in, and of course, I like to spread what I'd learnt, that's why I chose to be a teacher. But what I teach may not be what I preach. E.g. I have to teach contraceptive methods, but I don't believe in using it. (Either you get married and make love to your spouse to create the 'products of love' or not engage in sex at all.) Personally, I believe that organ failure could be a natural selection process. Remember Charles Darwin's 'Survival of the Fittest'?

There are many biomedical researches that bnefit mankind. For example IVF, producing what we call 'test-tube' babies. Now, the first batch of test-tube babies should be as old as I am. The adverse effects are yet to be monitored and studied in detail. And may not even show up yet.

However, I'm not denying totally the benefits that mankind obtain out of technology.

Ok, enough for the day.

Organ Transplant Issues

1. Use of Stem Cell Technology
Personally, I am very septical about all these unnatural life processes (which includes cloning). If all of you can remember Dolly the sheep, she's dead. Apparently, we cannot really play God. These unnatural processes may have adverse effects that we do not know yet. Try interview Dolly. ;p

2. Organ Transplantation
I do agree that there are many successful cases around. But the experience from my aunt tells me otherwise. With high tissue match, she went for kidney transplant, but later on faces tissure rejection. She's still on dialysis now and is more passive than before the transplant. Science and technology gives people hope. But once faced rejection, the patients are more crushed than before. You know, it's like putting a person high up in a building and then when he falls, he dies more terribly.

I will remain septical until statistics show that the chance of getting success is quite high and tested many times. Afterall, for many advances in medicine, scientists and doctors been through years of study to provide us with the many benefits that we have today.

Nowadays, organ donation has created a huge buzz not only in the medical society, but also to Singapore. It's hard to get organ donors and the inclusion of the Muslims in Singapore is huge boost to the situation. However, this does not mean that the problem is going to be solved in a matter of a few years. This problem will extend until we come out with a way to solve it. Thus, my question is, can science play a part in solving this problem? With all the huge buzz about stem cells and it's future practical use, can it really solve our problem? But the main question is, can science really help? This question is open to any relevant answers. So, play your part to answer this question! Thank you.

MUST thank Lutfi and Anna for coordinating. Just that missed out Gaytheri...

I'd enjoyed myself on last Sat. Of course, not to forget poor Melvin. Anyway, he has got his free hair removal session.

Don't worry about my husband. His (only) contribution was to drive us there, bought the non-carbonated drinks, and helped take care of my son. The rest of the coordination was quite easily done.

Don't be too stressed up, babes. Deal with it, not dwell on it. In your flight, take a short rest when you are tired.

I'd been to Cambodia on June 2005. The trip inspired me a lot. The Toul Sleung Museum is the place that gives me the most impact. So is the Killing Fields. Willy and gang will know very well. Each time they come to my house, I must show them the photos. It's a pretty sad country. :( Nice experience and I sure hope everyone of you have a chance to experience the impact yourself!

It's indeed one the life-changing experiences that I had.

Hi guys, it's so long since i have ever post something here. What can i say, life is so full of surprises and stress. So many outings yet none of it can i make it. It's so bad of me coz that person has thrown every sweat and energy to organise it. HAiz.... but this is lfe man. Schoolwork has been stalking me all the time plus my cca. Sorry guys, u won't be hearing me soon. U may forget me all together one day. Trust me.

hi guys~ its long time since i c u all... well, missed my classmates... haha... today went out and waited my friend infront of her sch...

well, waited for a long time though =.= seeing those sec students gonig back home in groups, chatting and playing along the way, i jus cant stop myself frm remembering my beloved classmates which i study wif for the past 2 yrs...

cos really waited for her for a long time, so really rmb a lot... the times where the whole class join forces to complete the task given to us... the time the teachers joke wif us... its really very memorable...

but, somehow, we start to spilt le... did any1 sense that too??? like the outings that some of our classmates organize, not many ppl went... ya.. i also never go lah... well, i mean we spilt cos each and every1 of us have diff thing to do... and not like b4, where all of us are required to go sch...

haiz... really hope for the next event, every1 will b free to attend... so 4m1 can b gather once again...

o ya.. mrs ng say the bbq mostly will b in june... so pls leave june FREE!!!!

Th template of this blog have to temporarily be this. Cos I've had a hard time editing it but failed. Due to th new implementations of th blogger.
